Desktop, Web, and Mobile
An overview of Synap's three platforms and why the desktop app is the heart of the experience.
Desktop, Web, and Mobile
Your knowledge starts on your desktop
Synap is built around a simple idea: your knowledge should live on your computer, under your control, and always available — even without internet. That's why the desktop app is the primary way to use Synap. Everything else builds on top of it.
The desktop app is free, requires no account, and gives you the full set of features. The web version adds team collaboration when you need it. And a mobile companion is on the way for when you're away from your desk.
Why desktop-first?
Think of your Synap workspace as a personal library that sits right on your hard drive. It opens instantly, works offline, and nobody else can see it unless you decide to share. There's no loading spinner waiting for a server, no worrying about internet outages, and no subscription required just to access your own notes.
Speed matters too. Because Synap runs natively on your machine — not inside a heavy browser wrapper — it's fast and light on resources. Scrolling through your mind, opening canvases, and chatting with Cortex all feel immediate.

Desktop — the full experience
The desktop app is where you do your real work. Create and edit minds, build canvases, design prototypes, explore connections in the Graph, and talk to Cortex. Every feature Synap offers is available here, and it all works whether you're connected to the internet or not.
You can download Synap for macOS or Windows and start using it immediately. No sign-up, no credit card, no trial period. It's yours.
Web — for teams that collaborate
When you're ready to share your knowledge with colleagues, Synap Web brings your team together. Your Memory zone — the reference knowledge you've built — becomes a shared resource that your whole team can browse and learn from.
Synap Web requires a paid subscription and an account. The key thing to understand is that editing still happens on your desktop. The web version is the shared window where your team can see and use the knowledge you've organized.
Mobile — coming soon
Synap Mobile will be a companion app for iOS and Android, giving you quick access to your mind and team dashboards while you're on the go. It's not available yet, but it's on the way.
You can use desktop alone
It's worth noting that you never have to use the web or mobile versions at all. Many people use the desktop app by itself and get full value from Synap. The other platforms are there when you need them — they're additions, not requirements.
Synap adapts to how you work: powerful on your desktop, shared with your team on the web, and soon in your pocket on mobile.
