Syncing Your Mind
How changes flow between your desktop and the web so your team always sees the latest version.
Syncing Your Mind
Edit on your desktop, and your team sees the changes on the web
That's the whole idea behind sync in Synap. When you save changes on your desktop — whether you've updated a mind, reorganized a canvas, or added new notes — those changes automatically flow to the web. Your team always has access to the latest version without anyone needing to do anything extra.
You don't need to click a "sync" button or upload files. It just happens in the background after you save, with a small delay to batch your changes efficiently.
It works offline too
If you're working without internet — on a plane, in a cafe with bad WiFi, or simply disconnected — Synap keeps working normally. Every change you make is saved locally on your computer as usual. When your connection comes back, Synap automatically sends your queued changes to the web.
You'll never lose work because of a network issue. Your desktop is always the source of truth, and sync picks up right where it left off.
Keep an eye on your sync status
The Mind Switcher at the bottom of the sidebar shows you exactly what's happening with sync at any moment:
- Green dot — Everything is up to date. Your team is seeing the latest version of your work.
- Yellow dot — You have changes waiting to sync. This usually means you just saved something and it hasn't been sent yet, or you're currently offline.
- Animated indicator — Syncing is in progress. Your changes are on their way to the web right now.
- Gray dot — You're offline. Synap is still saving your work locally and will sync when you reconnect.
Your team's changes flow back to you
Sync works in both directions. When someone on your team makes updates through their own desktop, those changes appear on the web and then flow back to your machine. Synap checks for updates from your team regularly, so you stay current without refreshing anything manually.
What gets synced
Everything important flows between your desktop and the web: all the files in your Memory, Focus, and Canvas zones, along with your system settings and plugin configurations. If it's part of your Synap workspace, it syncs.
When two people edit the same thing
On rare occasions, two team members might edit the same file at the same time. When that happens, the most recent save takes priority, and the other person gets a notification so they're aware of the update. In practice, this is uncommon — because the Memory zone is where most shared content lives, and teams typically divide responsibilities across different sections.
It's that simple
There's no setup, no configuration, and nothing to manage. Connect your desktop to your Synap Web account, and sync takes care of itself. You focus on your knowledge. Synap handles the rest.
